No club runs entirely by itself. Our commitee are made up of passionate cyclists from all walks of life. They run the club, set the training programme, plan away trips and are there to change a tyre when needed. Please say hi to them when you see them.
This is a little bit about them:
| President | David Humphries | Dave has been a member for 7 years and a coach for 2 years. He tries to mix in his cycling with a bit of sand running, skiing and climbing, mountain biking and trekking. Currently he’s trying not to fall off his mountain bike so much. | |
| Vice President | Rod Knutson | Rod is a foundation member of Steam, having been with the club for 12 years. Level 1 coach with 5 years experience. Rod is very bad at answering emails but good at drinking wine especially NZ pinots. He mountain bikes as well as road and is hooked on nanna naps! | |
| Secretary | Greg Sutherland | Greg has been a member of STEAM since 2004. He says of himself: ‘I am very much a weekend warrior and always a couple of good long rides away from reaching my potential’. Outside of cycling he is a distinguished medical researcher at the University of Sydney. He recently married his lovely wife Amanda and they live in the salubrious suburb of Newtown. | |
| Treasurer | Kevin Eley | Retired CEO now sitting on a number of public company boards. He has been a member of STEAM for over 10 years. Kevin came across cycling when training for an ironman and has loved it ever since. So much so that he did Race Across America with 3 other STEAM members in 2010. They completed the 5000km race which included 30,000 meters of climbing in 8 days. |
|
| Website | Drew Johnston | Drew has been a member of Steam for 3 years and a coach for 1 year. He road cycling obsessed and gets out whenever he can. Drew is also a very keen downhill skier. | |
| Newsletter | Garry Traynor |
Garry has been a member of Steam for 5 years; he came to cycling from swimming after injuries prevented competition. For his day job he works in education and has particular interest in the arts and creativity.
What he like most about cycling is the speed and the Colour. There is nothing more exciting than to be part of a fast moving pace line where everyone is moving with one purpose. |
|
| Clothing Officer | Keith White | Keith White, Project Manager & Builder, came to a love of serious cycling while training up for a couple of Iron Man events in the mid naughties. Highlights on the bike include Alpine Classic, 3 Peaks Challenge, Grafton to Inverell, YOTS Sydney to Surfers plus lots of wonderful training rides, coffee upon completion as well as the various social events held by STEAM. |
